Professor Ruth Waweru
Prof. Ruth holds a Bachelor of Education from Kenyatta University, an MBA from University of Nairobi and a Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) from Nelson Mandela University in South Africa.
She is an entrepreneur, management consultant and a corporate leader. Prof Ruth, through Liaison Consulting Limited has provided consultancy services to governments, corporate companies, development agencies and SMEs in Africa for over 20 years. She is a registered consultant with the World Bank and has undertaken several assignments in Kenya and in other African countries such as: South Sudan, Ethiopia, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Ghana, Liberia and several others. She has consulted for the European Union and UN agencies such as United Nation Development Program, UNICEF and UN Habitat.
Prof Ruth has extensive experience in Corporate Governance. At international level, she has been a member of the Supervisory board of Oikocredit Internationalheadquartered inNetherlands. She was the chairperson of Supervisory Board, Investment committee until June 2021 and previously has held various positions for a period of 12 years.Further, she is in the global board of Partners Worldwide based in US Michigan State with a presence in 27 countries. In Partners worldwide she is a member of the global board and chairperson of Partners Worldwide Kenya board and a member of the global fund loan committee.
Ruth has also served in the board of African Conference of Churches as a member of Finance and personnel committee for 9 years until June 2020. In Kenya, Prof Ruth is in the board of Kenya Orient Life Assurance LTD and Family Bank Insurance Agency. She has been a Director inFamily Bank and held positions such as: Vice chairperson for 5 years,chair of strategy and HR committees and a member of Audit and Risk committees.
Ruth is a social entrepreneur and believe in undertaking businesses with enormous capacity to transform societies positively. She is the founder Director of Brookhurst International schools: Main school is based in kiserian and second one in Lavington Nairobi.Brookhurst hasevolved to become a trusted brand that resonates with:excellence in academic performance, positive character transformation and development of sports and other talents.Other Companies that Ruth is involved in includes Bridge Capital that focuses on SME lending and equity investments. Ruth has trained and mentored many entrepreneurs in Africa and beyond.
In the academic field, Prof Ruth has been involved in business related academic programs with Nelson Mandela University, Riara University and University of Nairobiand she is a visiting Professor and resource Faculty member in University of Kigali-Rwanda. She has published in various academic journals, made presentations in various academic conferences and has reviewed several articles presented in International Business conferences (IBC).
